| I have one Caique - He will be caged for about 7 hours during the day. Will be out 2 hours in the morning and about 5 hours in the afternoon/evening. What size cage would be appropriate in these conditions? I have him in a cockateil size right now but want to get him something a little larger soon. He doesn't seem to have enough room to play in right now. Thanks for any advise. Chuy's Mom

| Keep your caique in the largest sized cage you can fit in your home. I keep my caique in a 36w x 24d x 60 h cage. The spacing on the bars is 1 inch, and I have no problems with her sticking her head through the bars. As you probably know, caiques are active birds and will more than appreciate the large space for going nuts on their hanging toys and just moving about the cage. I rarely have the cage door shut by the way. My caique, Mia, spends the entire day atop her cage, occasionally ducking into the cage for a bite to eat, or hitching a ride on my shoulder. A friend sent me a large branch of mesquite (thorns removed) which I have placed on top. It's great to hang more toys off of and she gets to climb to the top most limbs making her queen of the room. She goes into the cage at night and I close it up and cover it (branch is just taken off the top). Be careful though if you have other birds, as leaving a caique open to the world allow them to be aggressive to other birds, which they are sometimes known for.
